Student Reviews
The 19th Herald Student Reporters / Lim Jiseop
- 등록일 : 2024-02-14
I learned through a friend who had previously applied to Herald Student Reporters.
I was interested mainly in global politics and current news, and I wanted to take part in unbiased and honest journalism that would hopefully contribute to the world of information regardless of how small the impact may be.
I also wanted to find voices for news that are often not as detailed or contextualized in information, especially in Korea.
My experience here helped me develop deeper understanding of diplomatic and international issues like the conflict in Ukraine and the Wagner Group controversies.
These skills in researching the background helped me develop the skills to contextualize certain current events and view things from a historic perspective, so this helped me in mostly social studies project in my academic life.
The most memorable aspect has to be when the Wagner Group controversies were happening because I remember staying up until 4 AM just to hear further updates on the Wagner Coup that was attempted by Yevgeny Prigozhin.
I have never felt as engaged in a topic, especially one that is as significant as the coup that could have changed entire course of history in Russia.
I would definitely recommend the joining the HSR to any friends interested as it lays the fundamental understanding of journalism and helps the writers connect to the community and the global world that is changing at such a rapid pace.
It would help not only with the information but help develop a skill to keep up with the rapidly changing world.
I greatly enjoyed my time working for the HSR and I appreciated the quick feedbacks that would occur consistently.
The staffs working in HSR were highly communicative and helpful and comments regarding my works were always a great contributor to finding, understanding, and fixing mistakes in writing.
